Our Profile
More than 6000 familes engaged in screwpine based products such as sleeping mats, prayer mats, table mats, floor mats, wall mats, food processing, bags, flower vases, diary covers, pillow covers, flower holders, wall hangings and a thousand of other items, are part of this organisation. The Natural Fiber Cluster, an initiative of KJMTVFS, provides professional training to women workers engaged in screwpine, coir and jute product manufacturing. The program is funded by the Govt of India through the Industries Department of the Government of Kerala. The KJMTVFS has intiated various welfare plans for marginalised workers in these sectors through the Handicrafts & Textile Ministry, Govt of India, by providing ID cards. The members have been provided with insurance cover under the Janasree Beema Yojana of LIC of India. Members upto an age of 80 years are provided with health insurance cover under the ICICI Lombard scheme. This scheme covers a family of four ( 2 adults and 2 children under 21) with Rs.15,000/- per year. There are 3000 members enrolled under this scheme and health insurance card has been distributed for all these members. Scholarships have been given to the children of 2000 women workers. An amount of Rs.24 lakhs has already been spent on this account by the Samithi. Contact Information

The Kottayam Jilla Mahila Thazhapaya Vikasana Federal
Samithi (KJMTVFS) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) formed in 1998 with a view to help women workers
engaged in weaving screwpine mats. These women belong to the
unorganized sector of small scale industries and were often cheated out of their
rightful share of profits by middlemen. When the KJMTVFS was formed there were hardly 750
members in the samithi from the vaikom taluk. Now we support a large population of screwpine women wokers
in the region.

products, Training and Technology Development, and a major hub of screwpine
industry in Kerala, converting it into a dignified profession to be in and to
live by".
We are a confederation of 6 major primary societies, fully owned,
operated and managed by women and it is the only one of its kind in Kerala.
